I have found a bug. Who can I contact for help?
Please send email to vchat@cu-seeme.org if you find a bug. If vchat has crashed, there may be a CrashReporter trace in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. Please attach this trace to your email.
Why can't I receive any sound?
Very few reflectors have sound enabled because of the amount of bandwidth required. However, on reflectors that do, they may be using a newer form of sound transfer called RTP. In preferences, check the Use RTP Transport option and if you are behind a firewall, ensure that ports 7648 and 24032 UDP are forwarded to your computer.
Ensure you have the speakers turned on in the Audio Window.
Why does my camera not work with VChat
VChat uses Quicktime services to capture video from a webcam, and should work with all webcams that have a Mac OS X driver. This includes the Apple iSight camera
If your camera was supplied without a MacOS X driver, it may still work with the drivers at either IOxperts or the macam websites.
VChat crashes when I try to adjust my iSight(or other web-cam)
This unfortunately seems to be caused by the Macam driver. If you have installed this cam driver and are not using it, then you should remove it from your system as per the instructions that came with the driver. It will be necessary to reboot your system after you have done this.
VChat hangs when I Quit and I have to Force Quit
This is not 'normal' but has been reported by a few people. Try Disconnecting from any active conference before Quitting to see if that gives a clean exit from the application.
Will VChat work behind my NAT router/firewall
The answer is unfortunately "Maybe". Ensure that UDP ports 7648 and 24032 are open in both the inward and outward directions on your router/firewall and that incoming packets are forwarded to your Macintosh. Please consult documentation for your router/firewall to set this up.
In VChat Preferences, ensure that the option "Fix IP Address Mismatches" is checked.
Help!!! I am having trouble getting anthing from the ref!!!
Generally this will be the result of exceeding the bandwidth restrictions imposed by the reflector. To trouble shoot this, please try by disabling your microphone in the Audio window. In general is is better to choose the 'Push-to-Talk' setting. Also, ensure the audio codec you have chosen is appropriate for the bandwidth limitations of the reflector. In general, you should choose one of G723.1 codecs, which consume very little bandwidth.
I tried to tune my Video Settings and messed them up. Help!
Use the video settings button on the Reflectors window to set your camera back to the default state.
We cannot offer detailed advice on Video Settings as they are totally a function of your camera and driver.
Is checking for VChat updates safe ?
Yes - no information is transferred from your machine other than a simple WWW request to the VChat Download web site to determine the version number of the current VChat release. If there is a more recent version available than the one you are runnning, VChat prompts you download it.
When will VChat have support for CU-SeeMe Audio
As of release VChat 1.0a33, audio is supported for use with G723 and G711 codecs.
Why Auto-Filter Chat ?
Not everyone using CU-SeeMe is a nice person. Cases have been reported where a user enters a conference, becomes abusive and then when kicked, re-enters the conference under a different nickname.
Enabling this option means that chat from all new participants is filtered and you must manually unfilter them if you wish to see their chat
I entered a nickname in Chat Styles, but it is still not highlighted
The nickname most likely contains a non alpha-numeric character. Save the words either side of the special character into Chat Styles and they will be appropriately highlighted
Where are all the CU-SeeMe Reflectors
Although CU-SeeMe has declined in popularity as a video-conferencing system over the last few years, a list of reflectors is available for installation into VChat by first clicking the Reflectors window and then selecting "Import..." from the File menu. A dialog will appear asking if you wish to continue, as many of the CU-SeeMe reflectors listed are of an adult nature. Also, many of these reflectors will be empty and some may not even respond. You may be able to locate others with the use of the google search engine

This is commonly referred to as a joke. Examples of jokes are often found in the chat at a CU-SeeMe reflector.
